Philadelphia Area Choral Workshop
This workshop is being offered as part of the 125th Anniversary Celebration of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Elkins Park, PA. With the blessing of Annunciation's Father John Johns, the parish is graciously helping to host and coordinate Alexander’s new setting of the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, culminating in its liturgical offering on National Church Music Sunday, October 4th. This Divine Liturgy will be open to singers from across the broader Orthodox community: Greek Orthodox as well as the local Pan-Orthodox jurisdictions, with the hope of fostering both musical excellence and a shared spirit of unity in worship.
Audio resources have been created for registrants so they can learn and rehearse the different sections of the Liturgy by each isolated part or with the full SATB. The goal is for participants to come to the workshop familiar with their parts, so that we can use the workshop to enhance musicianship and continuity of sound.
In addition to preparing the liturgical music, the workshop will also include focused work on core musicianship concepts that participants can carry into their own parish settings. The workshop is free to attend.
